About Us

Our commitment to the environment

Pacific Homes is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of the production process to build your new home. This starts right from the forest through to the shop floor. Specifically our commitment to you is:

Corporate policy

We will meet all relevant environmental regulations and strive to surpass these requirements. Environmental impact will be given the same consideration in the purchasing and manufacturing process as other important factors, such as cost and quality.

Products we use

We will source raw materials from responsible suppliers. In particular, we use third party eco-certified wood (ISO 140001 and Forest Stewardship Council are examples1) whenever possible. Engineered wood products and I-beam type floor joist are used extensively in our packages, which use significantly less wood than traditional solid timbers. For example, I-joists use 35% less wood fiber compared to solid wood joists2 and are made from smaller trees readily available in reforested areas. In most cases we specify 2x6 exterior walls compared to 2x4 used in many areas of the world. This results in a 50% improvement in insulation and therefore a significant reduction in heating and cooling requirements. Plywood, OSB materials and engineered lumber are manufactured with minimal to undetectable levels of formaldehyde emission,3 which is associated with “off-gassing”. We encourage the use of insulated exterior doors and windows with low E coatings and Argon gas to reduce heat transmission.

Manufacturing process

Our state of the art processing equipment optimizes wood usage in wall and truss manufacturing. Compared to an average site framed house, this will result in a savings of 10 cubic yards of waste that would traditionally end up in the land fill. All metals, waste wood, cardboard, paper and polystyrene are recycled in the factory. The factory is committed to the lean manufacturing process and is continually upgrading to reduce waste and conserve energy. Our electricity supply is derived primarily from renewable hydro electric power which does not contribute to greenhouse gasses.
